How did I get here – Part 4

I learnt more about the Holy Spirit and deepened my love for the Father and Jesus. I continued to write songs and God opened doors for me to be able to use these not only at Church but at other churches and events. During this time I met Matt (my husband, wonderful worshipper and bass player to boot!) and eventually we got married and I moved to Maidstone. Matt was already at an NFI church and when I moved up to be with him I joined the church too. They had already been aware that I was a musician and singer as Matt had told them and before long I was part of the worship team. I would play my guitar and sing in the band and was very happy just doing that but God had other ideas and good friends of ours knew it… I am grateful that God speaks to others about our gifts and abilities when we ourselves can’t see it. David and Christine spent time talking to Matt & I about worship and suggested I should lead worship. This was a very big step for me and I wasn’t at all sure. The spirit of timidity was looming large, but they took it slow and I led the band – this didn’t feel like leading at all as I didn’t choose the songs and David was leading the service so I was just following. Gradually, and sneakily if have to say, I found myself doing more and more until I was leading worship directing the band, listening to the moving of the Holy Spirit, responding to the congregation as the Holy Spirit directed their contributions to the service be that scripture, word of prophecy or song. As part of NFI we attended the annual Stoneleigh Bible week and I would look at the band and think I would love to do that, and think I was ready to do that – again I was wrong there was lots more work to be done in me before I would be anywhere near ready! There was much to learn…
