It didn’t quite work out as I thought and by the time I visited the fracture clinic one week on it was still broken! I duly saw the consultant who game me some physio exercises to do because despite it bring broken you have to keep it moving, and was instructed to return 3 weeks later ( this would be week 4) The exercises made me say “ouch! ” but being a good girl I dutifully did them 3-4 times a day as instructed on the sheet.
In the interim period I enlisted the help of other worship leaders at church to play for me whilst I led without my guitar (a new experience I think every worship leader should try) and it challenged me to find ways of communicating with the band without my instrument – this involved quite a lot of gesturing and pointing. During this time we also had our first Detling rehearsal which again involved a lot of guesting and pointing from me but the guys were all great and adapted to this new version of Helen! Leading without my instrument has certainly been an experience but I have to be honest I did miss my guitar!!
Also during this time I was praying like mad that Jesus would heal my finger much quicker than the 4-6 weeks the hospital were quoting. Why praying like mad? well in week 7 Matt and I were due to lead worship at an event and week 6 was just to close for my comfort!
Fast forward to week 4…
I have been very good at doing my exercises and I am now back at the fracture clinic for a check. I have some more photos of my finger and hand taken and get ushered in to see the Dr. The chat was not filled with the most encouraging words I have ever heard! Having chatted to him about my need to play in 3 weeks time at this worship event he didn’t seem to think that this was going to be possible and that I would be needing some physio to help get back the full movement in my finger which, by the way, at this point I couldn’t make a fist with (to be fair nowhere near!). So we brush off his words & declare healing in Jesus name!!
